Being a past plaintiff in a major medical malpractice case in Baltimore City, Maryland, Nurse Dawn empathizes with those whose trust has been betrayed by the medical profession. She also recognizes the systemic issues inherent in the modern healthcare setting which is why Nurse Dawn wants to see better clinical outcomes for patients by helping healthcare organizations to operate proactively and effectively. Nurse Dawn started Bellinger Health Consulting in 2020 to help organizations and individual practitioners to maintain compliance with insurance and regulatory care organizations by offering a perspective of the healthcare member most visible in patient care— the Nurse.
Nurse Dawn began her health career as a Public Health Lab Scientist in Microbiology and Bioterrorism with the Maryland Department of Health which was exciting having trained at the CDC (Centers for Disease Control). Her desire to emerge to the forefront of healthcare led her to The Johns Hopkins University where she became a second career registered nurse. Nurse Dawn also earned her master's degree in Health Systems Management from the University of Baltimore where health law was her favorite course. She went on to obtain a certificate in Legal Nurse Consulting and is a Certified Coding Specialist through AHIMA. Nurse Dawn has over a decade of nursing and public health experience spanning various specialities and populations. Currently, she keeps her critical care skills sharp as an ICU and perioperative nurse in the D.C. area.
Among many accomplishments as a former nurse manager with Montgomery County Government Health and Human Services, Nurse Dawn successfully transitioned tenured government nurses to electronic health records, expanded Medication Assisted Treatment services to the incarcerated population, and improved the efficiency of the weekly multidisciplinary treatment team meeting. The responsibilities of nurse management opened her interest to the legalities and ethics around medicine. Her ability to communicate effectively and compassionately has served her well in establishing good working relationships within organizations as well as with external stakeholders.
Nurse Dawn enjoys hiking with her dog, violin, fencing and volunteer farming at a local church.
